BRIEF

This Marset Lighting Client project is about light in the domestic bathroom environment.
It is to be powered by LED light source.

RESEARCH

bathroom_zone_lighting_explained_95637_680_525.jpg

- Lights are too functional: Not for ambient/relaxed activities.
- Not many specific bathroom lighting.
- Adapted house lights to bathroom lights.

Escapism: 43% of surveyed people admit they use the space to have time for themselves.

Bathing dropped. Bathing is for special occasions, a meaningful activity

Ensuite are getting more popular, people are looking for more personal space.

EXPLORATION

Interior illumination should complement and inspire.

Bathroom:

- "Should be as creatively illuminated as the hall. It’s the first space we encounter upon rising."

- "For far too long bathroom have been plastic heavens, articulated with chrome or gilded caravan fitting."

- "Lighting shouId be positioned so skin tones appear healthy and diffuse light on each side of the mirror will cancel facial shadowing, while north sky light will do the contrary."

- "Light design talks about life."

Lighting

"Lighting is the spirit of our spaces. It has two aspects: science and art - In domestic environments, the second prevails."

Sensory cells in the eye transfer invisible light effects to specific regions of the brain which are  also responsible for controlling moods, sleep-waves and the circadian rhythm.

Blue light increases wakefulness and suppresses melatonin.
30 minutes of light at 10.000 lux leads to remission of seasonally depressed (60% - 75%) because it stimulates the adrenal glands.

Sunset.
Light with back reflector where light bounces.
The light source can be turned left or right which provide different light intensity depending on what the light is needed for.

CONCEPT

Next step on the sunset concept above.
Without the reflective plate. I decided to attach it to the mirror, which would act as a reflective source.

Creating a charging station on the back for when needed, it could be snapped on any side of the mirror as wanted depending on the situation.

As the concept above, when turning it the light changes to dimmer or stronger.
